High Fidelity Finds a Home on Broadway at the Imperial

High Fidelity has found a home on Broadway: The new musical comedy will begin previews at the Imperial Theatre on November 20, after a pre-Broadway engagement at Boston's Colonial Theatre from September 26-October 22. The Imperial's current tenant, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, is set to close on September 3.

A first time collaboration between composer Tom Kitt, lyricist Amanda Green and book writer David Lindsay-Abaire, High Fidelity is a romantic musical comedy based on best-selling novel by Nick Hornby, later a popular film starring John Cusack. Will Chase Lennon, Rent, Miss Saigon, The Full Monty and Jenn Colella Urban Cowboy lead a cast that includes Christian Anderson, Jay Klaitz, Jeb Brown, Katy Mixon, Emily Swallow, Jon Patrick Walker, Kirsten Wyatt and ensemble members Justin Brill, Andrew C. Call, Matt Caplan and Anne Warren, and swings Paul Castree, George Merrick, Tom Plotkin, Rachel Stern and J.B. Wing. Tony winner Walter Bobbie Chicago will direct, with choreography by Christopher Gattelli Altar Boyz, Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me.

High Fidelity tells the story of Rob Chase, a record store owner who knows almost everything there is to know about pop music, but almost nothing about how to hold on to a girl. Rob's love life, already a broken record of heartache, falls off the charts completely when he gets dumped by Laura Colella—but that just sets him up for one of the top five romantic comebacks ever.

The musical has set an official opening night of December 7.
