Christian Campbell will play Pip opposite Kathleen Chalfant as Miss Havisham in TheatreworksUSA's forthcoming world premiere production of Great Expectations. Previews of Bathsheba Doran's adaptation of Dickens' semi-autobiographical novel begin November 8 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, directed by Will Pomerantz. Opening night is November 16, with the limited off-Broadway engagement set to end on December 3.
Great Expectations follows young orphan Pip Campbell through adulthood navigating London's society circles and his relationships with a wealthy, eccentric woman Chalfant and her haughty adopted daughter, Estella Kristen Bush, A Touch of the Poet . Rounding out the cast will be Kenneth Boys Sarah, Plain and Tall as Pumblechook, Emily Donahoe Apparition as Biddy, John Joseph Gallagher as Magwich and Paul Niebanck Shockheaded Peter as Joe.
Chalfant received Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations for Angels in America and won numerous awards including Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Obie for her performance in Wit. Other notable stage credits include Talking Heads, Nine Armenians and End Game.
Campbell's stage credits include tick…tick...BOOM! London, Reefer Madness and Drift. His film credits include Trick, The Piano Man's Daughter and Thank You Good Night.
Now in its 45th anniversary season, TheatreworksUSA ranks as America's foremost not-for-profit professional theater for family audiences. With a few exceptions, Great Expectations will play seven shows a week, including five matinees.
