Anna Camp and Christopher Evan Welch will join Emmy winners Patricia Heaton and Tony Shalhoub in Theresa Rebeck's The Scene at off-Broadway's Second Stage Theatre. The black comedy will begin performances on December 14 and will open officially on January 11, 2007.
In Rebeck's new play, which premiered at the Actors Theatre of Louisville's Humana Festival and will be directed by Rebecca Taichman, Shalhoub plays an out-of-work actor who is married to a news producer, played by Heaton, but engages in an affair with a young ingénue from Ohio named Clea, and finds himself completely morally and spiritually lost.
Welch, who will play Lewis, the best friends of Shalhoub's character, has appeared on Broadway in Festen, The Crucible and London Assurance. Recent off-Broadway credits include The Pain and the Itch, Romance and Writer's Block.
The Scene will have sets by Derek McLane, costumes by Jeff Mahshie, lighting by Natasha Katz and sound design by Martin Desjardins.
