Shout! The Mod Musical will play its final performance at off-Broadway's Julia Miles Theatre on December 31, 2006. The 90-minute revue began performances on July 11 and upon closing will have played a total of 199 performances.
Shout! will close down to make way for The Women's Project, which resumes its residency at the Midtown theater in January 2007; however, a national tour is planned for the spring, along with expected productions in Japan and Korea. Next up at the Julia Miles is The Women's Projects' world premiere of Kathryn Walat's Victoria Martin: Math Team Queen, which will run from January 12 through February 11, 2007.
Shout! tracks five young women as they come of age in England during the swinging 1960s. Each woman in the cast is identified by the color of her costume instead of by name: Marie-France Arcilla Blue, Erin Crosby Yellow, Julie Dingman Evans Orange, Erica Schroeder Green and Denise Summerford Red. The tuner uses letters to an advice columnist, true confessions, quizzes and advertisements as a frame for many 1960s pop hits, including "To Sir With Love," "Downtown," "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me," "Son of a Preacher Man" and "Goldfinger."
