Cast Announced for New York Premiere of Durang/Melnik Musical Adrift in Macao

The cast has been announced for the New York premiere of Christopher Durang and Peter Melnick's new musical Adrift in Macao. Presented by Primary Stages under the direction of Sheryl Kaller, the show will star Alan Campbell Sunset Boulevard, Will Swenson Lestat, Rachel deBenedet Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Orville Mendoza, Michele Ragusa, Jonathan Rayson and Elisa Van Duyne. Macao will play at 59E59 Theaters from January 23 to March 4, with the official opening night set for February 13.

DeBenedet, Mendoza and Ragusa earned Barrymore Awards for their performances in the Philadelphia Theater Company's production of Macao. Campbell, Swenson, Rayson and Van Duyne are new to the cast.

Adrift in Macao is a madcap musical parody of glamorous films noirs, in which the leading lady can always get a job singing in nightclubs no matter how she sings, and the leading man is always mysterious and can't go home for murky reasons he won¹t explain. From the opium dens of China to the lowlife bars of New York, Durang and composer Melnick take us on a hilarious tour through the post-WWII years complete with intrigue, silliness and a playfully melodic score.

The show features book and lyrics by Christopher Durang and music by Peter Melnick, as well as choreography by Christopher Gattelli and musical direction by Fred Lassen. Set design is by Thomas Lynch, costume design is by Willa Kim, lighting design is by Jeff Croiter, sound design is by Peter J. Fitzgerald, and Michael Starobin provides orchestrations.
