The producers of My Name Is Rachel Corrie have announced a closing date of December 17. The play began previews on October 5 and opened off-Broadway at the Minetta Lane Theatre on October 15. Originally scheduled to run through November 19, it had previously been extended through December 30. As of December 17, My Name Is Rachel Corrie will have played 9 previews and 71 regular performances.
The solo show currently stars Bree Elrod in the title role of a 23-year-old American activist killed by an Israeli bulldozer in Gaza in March 2003. The role was originated in London and off-Broadway by Megan Dodds. Alan Rickman, who edited the piece with Katharine Viner from the journals and e-mails of Rachel Corrie, directed the production.
