The Coast of Utopia Extends for Two Months, Through 5/13

Lincoln Center Theater will extend the run of Tom Stoppard's trilogy The Coast of Utopia through May 13, 2007, at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. The production, directed by Jack O'Brien, was originally scheduled to run through March 10. The extension will offer audiences an additional 21 opportunities to see the three parts of the trilogy, including all three parts in one day on six Saturdays: March 24, March 31, April 7, April 21, April 28 and May 5.

Part One of The Coast of Utopia, "Voyage," opened on November 27 and is currently being presented in rotation with Part Two, "Shipwreck," which opens on December 21. They will be joined early next year by the third part of the trilogy, "Salvage," which begins performances on January 30 and opens February 15.

The Coast of Utopia is performed by a company of 44 actors led by Billy Crudup, Richard Easton, Jennifer Ehle, Josh Hamilton, David Harbour, Jason Butler Harner, Ethan Hawke, Amy Irving, Brían F. O'Byrne and Martha Plimpton. Beginning in mid-19th-century Russia during the repressive reign of Tsar Nicholas I, Stoppard's epic spans a period of 30 years as it tells the panoramic story of a group of Russian idealists headed by the radical theorist and editor Alexander Herzen O'Byrne, the novelist Ivan Turgenev Harner, the literary critic Vissarion Belinsky Crudup, the poet Nicholas Ogarev Hamilton and the aristocrat-turned-anarchist Michael Bakunin Hawke.

The Coast of Utopia has sets by Bob Crowley and Scott Pask, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Brian MacDevitt "Voyage", Kenneth Posner "Shipwreck" and Natasha Katz "Salvage" and original music and sound design by Mark Bennett.
