Due to popular demand, Classic Stage Company has extended the run of the American premiere of Yasmina Reza's A Spanish Play, starring Zoe Caldwell, an additional two weeks, through March 4. Previews begin January 10, with an official off-Broadway opening scheduled for February 1.
A Spanish Play features four-time Tony Award winner Caldwell in her return to the New York stage, joined in an ensemble by Katherine Borowitz, Linda Emond, Denis O'Hare and Larry Pine. Translated by playwright David Ives, A Spanish Play will be directed by John Turturro and feature scenic design by Riccardo Hernandez, costumes by Donna Zakowska and lighting by Christopher Akerlind.
Following in the venerable footsteps of Pirandello, Reza's A Spanish Play goes behind the scenes at the rehearsal of a play, where the line between reality and the theater begin to blur. A Spanish Play premiered in Paris at the Theatre de la Madeleine in January 2004. It has also been performed in several other European countries and in Canada.
