Oscar nominee Peter Morgan's acclaimed drama Frost/Nixon, starring Frank Langella as Richard Nixon and Michael Sheen as David Frost, will transfer to Broadway beginning March 31 for a 20-week limited engagement. Opening night at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre has been set for April 22, directed by Donmar Warehouse artistic director Michael Grandage. Frost/Nixon recently transferred to the Gielgud Theatre in London's West End following a sold-out run at the Donmar; the London run will end on February 3.
Frost/Nixon tackles the question: How did David Frost, a famous British talk-show host with a playboy reputation, elicit the apology that the rest of the world was waiting to hear from former President Richard Nixon? The fast-paced play shows the determination, conviction and cunning of two men as they square off in one of the most monumental political interviews of all time.
Langella Richard Nixon is a two-time Tony Award winner whose recent Broadway credits include Match, Fortune's Fool Tony for Outstanding Featured Actor, Present Laughter and The Father Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor. He also received the Best Featured Actor Tony for his role in Edward Albee's Seascape. Other notable New York stage appearances include Dracula, Cyrano, Design for Living, After the Fall and A Christmas Carol. His films include Superman Returns, Starting Out in the Evening and Good Night and Good Luck.
Sheen David Frost can currently be seen in Peter Morgan's film The Queen portraying British Prime Minister Tony Blair BAFTA nomination, Actor is a Supporting Role. He made his Broadway debut as the title character in Peter Shaffer's Amadeus and his previous Donmar production was the award-winning Caligula Evening Standard and Critic's Circle Awards for Best Actor, Olivier Award nomination for Best Actor. His other films include Dead Long Enough, The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse, Kingdom of Heaven, Laws of Attraction, Bright Young Things, Underworld, The Four Feathers and Wilde.
Frost/Nixon is Peter Morgan's first stage play and was developed with Matthew Byam Shaw. Morgan's screenplay for The Queen ,starring Oscar nominee Helen Mirren and Sheen, received a 2007 Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay, as well as the Golden Globe, Venice Film Festival, New York Film Critics, Los Angeles Film Critics and British Independent Film Awards in the same category. His other current film work includes The Last King of Scotland, starring Oscar nominee Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin, which earned Morgan a British Independent Film Award nomination. Other films include Martha, Meet Frank, Daniel and Laurence and the forthcoming The Other Boleyn Girl with Scarlett Johansson.
Frost/Nixon will be produced on Broadway by Matthew Byam Shaw, Arielle Tepper Madover, Robert Fox and Act Productions. Designs are by Christopher Oram, with lighting by Neil Austin, and the music & sound score by Adam Cork. Video design is by Jon Driscoll.
