According to New York Post syndicated columnist Cindy Adams, Academy Award winner Meryl Streep has landed the role of Sister Aloysius in the big screen adaptation of Doubt. As previously announced, playwright John Patrick Shanley will write and direct the film, which is set to start filming later this year.
Streep, who has been nominated for 14 Academy Awards and won two for Kramer vs. Kramer and Sophie's Choice, is also attached to star in the film adapation of the Broadway musical Mamma Mia! In fact, throughout her career she has been seen in stage-to-screen projects, appearing in TV adaptations of Wendy Wasserstein's Uncommon Women and Others and Tony Kushner's Angels in America and film adaptations of Plenty, Marvin's Room and Dancing at Lughnasa. She is currently nominated for an Oscar for The Devil Wears Prada.

O'Byrne as Father Flynn, Heather Goldenhersh as Sister James and Adriane Lenox as Mrs. Muller. Set at a Catholic school in the Bronx, it centers on a nun who grows suspicious when a priest begins taking too much interest in the life of a young black student. Is she being overly protective or not protective enough? And can she work within the system to discover the truth? Doug Hughes directed the Broadway production of Doubt, which closed on July 2, 2006 after 525 performances.
Doubt was honored with the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Actress in a Play Jones, Best Featured Actress in a Play Lenox and Best Direction of a Play.
