Judy Kaye and Walter Bobbie to Headline Encores!' Face the Music

Judy Kaye and Walter Bobbie will headline Face the Music, the next production in New York City Center's 2007 Encores! series. This first full-scale restoration of Irving Berlin and Moss Hart's 1932 musical will be directed by John Rando and choreographed by Randy Skinner, with guest music direction by Rob Fisher, Face the Music will play for five performances, from March 29 - April 1, at City Center.

In addition to Kaye and Bobbie, the cast includes Jeffry Denman The Producers, Dream, Encores! production of Of Thee I Sing, Felicia Finley The Wedding Singer, Aida, Chris Hoch Spamalot, Dracula, Mylinda Hull Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Sweet Charity, Eddie Korbich The Drowsy Chaperone, Carousel, Meredith Patterson 42nd Street, The Boy Friend, Timothy Shew Wonderful Town, The Scarlet Pimpernel and Lee Wilkof Kiss Me, Kate, Little Shop of Horrors, She Loves Me.

Face the Music is about a desperate producer trying to raise the money for his latest Broadway revue, Rhinestones of '32. For investors, he finds crooked NYC policemen who want to lose all their dirty money before their "tin boxes" are subpoenaed. The show flops on opening night, but becomes a smash hit when "racy" material is added and the Vice Squad tries to shut it down. Face the Music, with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin and book by Moss Hart, opened on Broadway on February 17, 1932. Songs include "Let's Have Another Cup of Coffee," "Soft Lights and Sweet Music," "I Say It's Spinach And The Hell With It" and "Manhattan Madness."

Bobbie won a Tony Award for his direction of the current Broadway revival of Chicago, which originated at Encores! Other Broadway directing credits include High Fidelity, Sweet Charity, Twentieth Century and Footloose. As an actor, Bobbie appeared on Broadway in Guys and Dolls, Cafe Crown and Anything Goes.

Kaye most recently appeared on Broadway in Souvenir, for which she received a Tony Award nomination. She won the Tony for her performance in The Phantom of the Opera and was nominated for Mamma Mia!. Other Broadway credits include On the Twentieth Century, Ragtime and the recent revival of Sweeney Todd as a sub for Patti LuPone.
