Broadway Grosses: Lea Boosts Les Miz

The beginning of spring break saw a boost to many Broadway box offices, including Les Miserables. In Lea Salonga's first full week as Fantine, the revival filled the Broadhurst Theatre to 94.20%, making it the third highest show in terms of capacity. Another addition to the top-sellers list is The Year of Magical Thinking, with star Vanessa Redgrave helping to fill the Booth Theatre to 94.05% in the show's first week of previews. The new musical The Pirate Queen also began previews this past week, filling the 1,799-seat Hilton Theatre to a respectable 85.25% and bringing in more than $600,000. Broadway said good-bye to two plays, The Vertical Hour and Translations, the latter of which continued to play to more than 90% capacity in its final week at the Biltmore Theatre.
