"Seussical has had almost as many lives as the Cat in the Hat," Ahrens said in a statement, "from its original reading in New York to its Toronto workshop to its Boston premiere through its Broadway run and onto two national tours. Now, we're delighted that Seussical is being performed all across North America, and we've prepared this special one-act version to accommodate its youngest audiences." The original Broadway production of the show opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on November 30, 2000, and ran for 198 performances.
Theatreworks/USA's version of Seussical features scenic design by Narelle Sissons, costume design by Tracy Christensen, lighting design by Matthew Richards, sound design by Eric Shim and puppet design by Eric Wright.
Tickets for Seussical will be free and available on a first come, first served basis in-person at the Lucille Lortel Theatre box office on the day of the performance, one hour prior to curtain time. Individual reservations cannot be made in advance. Tony Award winner Cynthia Nixon will serve as honorary chair of Theatreworks/USA's 19th annual Free Summer Theatre program.
