The Tony Award Administration Committee met on April 12 to decide the eligibility of four Broadway productions for the 2007 American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards, presented by the League of American Theatres and Producers and the American Theatre Wing. The following decisions were announced:
All three parts of Tom Stoppard's The Coast of Utopia "Voyage," "Shipwreck" and "Salvage" will be considered as one play in the Best Play category. Brían F. O'Bryne will be considered in the Leading Actor in a Play category for his performance as Alexander Herzen in The Coast of Utopia.
John Mahoney will be considered in the Featured Actor in a Play category for his performance as the Old Man in Prelude to a Kiss. Mahoney gets top billing above co-stars Alan Tudyk Peter and Annie Parisse Rita, who will remain in the Leading Actor and Actress categories.
The fourth production considered was Translations, in which all actors were billed below the title and will be considered in the Featured Actor and Actress categories. All decisions other than those mentioned above were consistent with opening night credits.
This is the fourth time the Tony Award Administration Committee has met, and it will have one more meeting to discuss the eligibility of the remaining shows opening in the 2006-2007 season. The cut-off date for eligibility is May 9, and nominations will be announced on May 15. The Tony Awards will be broadcast in a live three-hour ceremony from Radio City Music Hall on June 10.
