Casting is complete for the Roundabout Theatre Company's forthcoming Broadway revival of John Van Druten's 1940 comedy Old Acquaintance. Joining the previously announced Margaret Colin and Harriet Harris will be Stephen Bogardus Preston Drake, Diane Davis Deirdre Drake, Corey Stoll Rudd Kendall, Cynthia Darlow Susan and Gordana Rashovich Sabrina. Davis replaces the previously announced Lily Rabe, who dropped out due to scheduling conflicts, according to a production spokesperson.
Old Acquaintance will begin previews at the American Airlines Theatre on June 1 and open officially on June 28, directed by Michael Wilson. The limited engagement will continue through August 19.
The play is described as a delightful drawing-room comedy about two childhood friends who have grown into very different adults. Though they are both successful authors, independent Katharine "Kit" Markham Colin carries on an affair with a younger man while divorcee Mildred "Millie" Drake Harris refuses to loosen the apron strings on her teenage daughter, Deidre Davis. But when Deidre's struggles to become more like her idol Kit have far-reaching consequences, the two women who thought they were growing apart realize that they may have much more in common than they'd like to admit.
Davis recently played Christine Baranski's daughter in the Manhattan Theater Club production of Paul Rudnick's Regrets Only. She made her Broadway debut last season in Festen and appeared in Mother of Invention at the Williamstown Theater Festival.
Stoll appeared in Lincoln Center Theater's production of Henry IV and received a Drama Desk nomination for Intimate Apparel. Other off-Broadway credits include The Hologram Theory and A Tale of Two Cities. Regional credits include Intimate Apparel, In Darkness, The Roads That Lead Here and The New Americans.
Darlow's Broadway credits include Taller Than a Dwarf, Present Laughter, Sex and Longing, Prelude to a Kiss, Rumors and Grease. Off-Broadway credits include Sin A Cardinal Deposed, Hank Williams: Lost Highway, June and the Paycock, The Cider House Rules, Once in a Lifetime, Most Fabulous Story Ever Told, 'Til The Rapture Comes and The Naked Truth.
Rashovich received a Drama Desk nomination and Obie Award for playing a Holocaust survivor in A Shayna Maidel, a role she also played to acclaim in Los Angeles. She received a Theatre World Award for Fefu and Her Friends and appeared on Broadway in Conversations with My Father. Favorite regional credits include Master Class, Auntie Mame, The Little Foxes, Orpheus Descending, A Streetcar Named Desire, Richard III and The Matchmaker.
