Rock 'n' Roll spans the years from 1968 -1990 from the double perspective of Prague, Czechoslovakia, where a rock 'n' roll band comes to symbolize resistance to the Communist regime, and of Cambridge, England, where the verities of love and death are shaping the lives of three generations in the family of a Marxist philosopher. The play received its world premiere at London's Royal Court Theatre and subsequently transferred to the Duke of York's Theatre for a sold-out run.
Stoppard was most recently represented on Broadway with the Lincoln Center Theater production of The Coast of Utopia, which has received 10 Tony Award nominations, including Best Play. The premiere of Rock 'n' Roll will mark the 40th anniversary since Stoppard was introduced to Broadway audiences with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.
Cox's Broadway credits include Strange Interlude and Art. Off-Broadway, he appeared in St. Nicholas and Rat in the Skull. Other theater credits include In Celebration, Hedda Gabler, Rat In The Skull and Dublin Carol. A veteran of more than 50 feature films, he recently co-starred in Match Point, Red Eye and The Bourne Supremacy and was featured on the HBO series Deadwood.
