The new Broadway musical Xanadu, which lost its leading man, James Carpinello to a foot injury, has reset its opening date for July 10. The show began previews on May 23 at the Helen Hayes Theatre and had been scheduled to open on June 26. As previously reported, Cheyenne Jackson All Shook Up will assume Carpinello's role, a frustrated record album cover artist named Sonny, on June 22.
Directed by Christopher Ashley and written by Douglas Carter Beane featuring songs from the 1980 cult favorite movie and more, Xanadu also stars Kerry Butler as Kira, Tony Roberts as Danny McGuire, Jackie Hoffman as Calliope, Mary Testa as Melpomeny, Curtis Holbrook, Anika Larsen, Kenita R. Miller, Marty Thomas and Andre Ward. Ward has been playing the role of Sonny in Carpinello's absence.
