The Drowsy Chaperone arrived on Broadway with little fanfare, opening on May 1, 2006, to excellent reviews. It tells the story of a modern-day musical theater addict known simply as Man in Chair Bob Saget in a role created by Bob Martin drops the needle on his favorite cast album, the 1928 musical comedy The Drowsy Chaperone, which magically bursts to life on stage. The musical quickly snagged 13 Tony nominations and won awards for its book and score. In recent weeks, the show had been playing to less than 50 percent of capacity at its 1,600-seat theater.
The Drowsy Chaperone currently stars Saget, Peter Bartlett, Danny Burstein, Mara Davi, Troy Britton Johnson, Garth Kravits, Jason Kravits, Tony Award® winner Beth Leavel, Kecia Lewis-Evans, Jennifer Smith, Gerry Vichi, Patrick Wetzel, Cindy Williams, Linda Gabler, Dale Hensley, Joey Sorge, Joanna Young, Jay Douglas, Stacia Fernandez, Mamie Parris and Kilty Reidy.
