Gerry Vichi will join the cast of the Broadway musical Curtains on January 8 as Broadway producer Sidney Bernstein, replacing original cast member Ernie Sabella. Curtains is continuing its run at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, directed by Scott Ellis.
Vichi comes to Curtains directly from the The Drowsy Chaperone, where he played Mr. Feldzeig, another Broadway producer. He made his Broadway debut in 1981 in the original cast of Woman of the Year, featuring a score by the Curtains songwriting team of John Kander & Fred Ebb and original book writer Peter Stone. Vichi's other Broadway credits include Annie Get Your Gun, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Anything Goes, Ain't Broadway Grand and Woman of the Year. He performed as the Wizard in The Wizard of Oz and Fezziwig in A Christmas Carol, both at Madison Square Garden, and appeared with Bill Irwin in Scapin at the Roundabout Theatre.
Curtains stars 2007 Tony Award winner and four-time Emmy Award winner David Hyde Pierce as stagestruck detective Frank Cioffi, who is called in to Boston's Colonial Theatre in 1959 to investigate the suspicious death of a new musical's leading lady. The show also stars Debra Monk as producer Carmen Bernstein, Karen Ziemba as lyricist Georgia Hendricks, Jason Danieley as composer Aaron Fox, Jill Paice as ingénue Niki Harris and Edward Hibbert as director Christopher Belling.
