Miriam Margolyes, who originated the role of Madame Morrible in the West End mounting of Wicked, will play the part on Broadway starting Tuesday, January 22. Current Morrible Carole Shelley will end her return engagement in the show on Sunday, January 20.
Margolyes has appeared in over 40 major films including the Harry Potter series as Professor Sprout, The Age of Innocence for which she earned a BAFTA Award, Romeo + Juliet, Being Julia, Ladies in Lavender and Little Dorrit. Other West End credits include George in The Killing of Sister George and Mrs. Hardcastle in She Stoops to Conquer. She was recently seen on the New York stage as Miss Prism in Sir Peter Hall's production of The Importance of Being Earnest at BAM.
Wicked also currently stars Stephanie J. Block as Elphaba, Annaleigh Ashford as Glinda, David Burnham as Fiyero, Lenny Wolpe as The Wizard, Cristy Candler as Nessarose, Logan Lipton as Boq and Steven Skybell as Dr. Dillamond.
