Director Debbie Allen has cast the major supporting roles in her upcoming African-American Broadway production of Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. The new cast members will join previously announced stars Phylicia Rashad Big Mama, James Earl Jones Big Daddy, Anika Noni Rose Maggie and Terrence Howard Brick. The revival will begin previews on February 12 at the Broadhurst Theatre and open on March 6.
Giancarlo Esposito Do the Right Thing, original cast of Merrily We Roll Along has been cast as Brick's older brother, Gooper; Lisa Arrindell Anderson will play his grasping wife, Mae; Count Stovall All My Children, As the World Turns will be Dr. Baugh and Lou Myers The Color Purple, The Piano Lesson will be Rev. Tooker.
Allen's mounting of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof will be the first African-American production approved by the Williams estate for the Broadway stage.
