Manhattan Theatre Club has announced additional casting for its upcoming Broadway production of Caryl Churchill's Top Girls and off-Broadway production of Itamar Moses' The Four of Us. Top Girls begins previews at the Biltmore Theatre on April 15 and will open on May 7, directed by James Macdonald. The Four of Us begins previews at New York City Center Stage II on March 6 and opens on March 25, directed by Pam MacKinnon.
Joining the previously announced Mary Catherine Garrison, Elizabeth Marvel, Martha Plimpton and Marisa Tomei in Top Girls will be Jennifer Ikeda Seascape, As You Like It and Ana Reeder No Country for Old Men, Sight Unseen, Small Tragedy.
MTC's production will mark the Broadway debut of Churchill's play, which had an acclaimed run at the Public Theater in 1982. At the Top Girls Employment Agency in London in the early 1980s, Marlene Marvel has just been appointed head of the firm. But as this ambitious career woman celebrates her achievements, can we applaud her values?
Moses' play is described as a poignant work about friendship and memory. When Benjamin's Banner first novel vaults him into literary stardom, his friend David Esper, a struggling playwright, is thrilled for his newfound success...or is he? Should Benjamin help David by using his new connections? Can David even expect such favors from his friend? And, most importantly, who should pay for lunch?
The creative team for Top Girls will include Tom Pye scenic design, Laura Bauer costume design, Christopher Akerlind lighting design, Darron L West sound design, Matthew Herbert original music and Elizabeth Smith dialect consultant.
The creative team for The Four of Us will include David Zinn scenic and costume design, Russell H. Champa lighting design, and Daniel Baker sound design.
