Parlour Song is described as an exploration of what happens when two ordinary people discover they hate who they have become. Butterworth reveals a world in which all is not what it seems, when a demolitions expert suspects his wife is stealing from him. The production marks the third collaboration and first world premiere between the British playwright and the Atlantic, which previously mounted Pepe's productions of Mojo and The Night Heron.
Bauer, an Atlantic ensemble member, appeared in the Broadway revival of A Streetcar Named Desire and off-Broadway in The Night Heron, Hothouse, Butterworth's Mojo, Defiance and Refuge. On television, he can be seen on Alan Ball's HBO series True Blood and the CBS series Numb3rs.
Cake is currently appearing in the world premiere of Ethan Coen's Almost An Evening at Atlantic Stage 2, directly from the Broadway cast of Lincoln Center's Cymbeline. He starred in Deborah Warner's Tony-nominated production of Medea on Broadway, in London's West End and at BAM. In London, Cake starred in Baby Doll and played the title role in Coriolanus at Shakespeare's Globe.
Parlour Song will feature scenic design by Robert Brill, costume design by Sarah Edwards, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, sound design by Obadiah Eaves and projection design by Dustin O'Neil.
