Tony Award winner Julie White will star in the Manhattan Theatre Club production of From Up Here. Directed by Leigh Silverman, the world premiere dark comedy will perform at MTC's Stage I space at City Center, with performances starting March 27.
Written by Liz Flahive, From Up Here concerns Kenny Barrett, a high school senior who did something that has everyone worried. He wishes he could just make it through the rest of his senior year unnoticed, but that's going to be hard since he has to publicly apologize to his entire high school. At home, his family is struggling with second marriages, surprise visits, school dances, and forgotten dry cleaning. White will play Grace Warren, the recently remarried mother of Kenny and sister Lauren newcomer Aya Cash. Also cast in the show are Will Rogers and Joel Van Liew.
White won a 2007 Tony Award for her work in the Broadway comedy The Little Dog Laughed. Other New York stage credits over a 20-year career include Lucky Stiff, Just Say No, Spike Heels, The Family of Mann, Dinner with Friends, Barbra's Wedding and Fiction. She was recently seen in the film hit Transformers and the short-lived TV sitcom Cavemen.
From Up Here, which MTC is producing in association with Ars Nova, is set to open on April 16.
