Kristine Nielsen will join the cast of Spring Awakening on March 4 in the adult women's roles, producer Jeffrey Richards confirmed. Nielsen replaces Kate Burton, who joined the show on December 21 and will depart on March 2. Spring Awakening is continuing its run at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre.
Nielsen is scheduled to play Madame de Volanges, the mother of ingenue Cecile Mamie Gummer, in Roundabout Theatre Company's Broadway revival of Les Liaisons Dangereuses, which begins previews at the American Airlines Theatre on April 11. Earlier this season, she was featured in the off-Broadway production of Charles Busch's Die Mommie Die! Her Broadway credits include A Streetcar Named Desire, The Green Bird, Jackie and The Iceman Cometh. Off-Broadway, she has appeared in Crazy Mary, Our Leading Lady, Based on a Totally True Story, Miss Witherspoon, Omnium Gatherum and Betty's Summer Vacation, among many others.
