J. Smith-Cameron to Star in Good Boys and True at Second Stage

Tony Award nominee J. Smith-Cameron is among the cast members of Second Stage Theatre's forthcoming production of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's Good Boys and True. The play will begin previews on April 23 and open on May 19 , directed by Scott Ellis.

In addition to Smith-Cameron, the cast of Good Boys and True will feature Christopher Abbott, Betty Gilpin, Kellie Overbey The Coast of Utopia and Brian J. Smith Come Back, Little Sheba.

Against a backdrop of 1980s privilege and power, a disturbing scandal at an all-boys' prep school forces a mother Smith-Cameron to confront the truth about her son Smith and herself in Good Boys and True. As the scandal unexpectedly twists and turns, mother and son find themselves contending with unforeseen and long-concealed secrets that threaten to destroy both school and family.

Second Stage Theatre helped launch Aguirre-Sacasa's career when the company produced The Mystery Plays in the Second Stage Uptown series during the summer of 2004. He served as NEA/TCG Playwright-in-Residence at Second Stage during the 2004 and 2005 seasons and is currently part of the theater's Time Warner Commissioning Program. His comedy Based on a Totally True Story was produced by Manhattan Theatre Club. The world premiere of Good Boys and True, directed by Pam MacKinnon, played at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre last December.

Smith-Cameron received a Tony nomination for Our Country's Good and Drama Desk nominations for Sarah, Sarah, As Bees in Honey Drown and The Naked Truth. Her Broadway credits include After the Night and the Music, Tartuffe, Night Must Fall, The Play's the Thing and The Real Inspector Hound.

Good Boys and True will have scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Tom Broeker, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, and sound design by Lewis Flinn.
