Casting Complete for Off-Broadway Musical Saved

Final casting has been announced for Playwrights Horizons' upcoming world premiere of Saved, a musical based on the 2004 film starring Mandy Moore and Macauley Culkin. Featuring music and lyrics by Michael Friedman and book and lyrics by John Dempsey and Rinnie Groff, the show will begin previews at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater on May 9, with an official opening on June 3. The limited engagement will continue through June 22, directed by Gary Griffin.

Newcomer Caitlin Summer has joined the cast as Cassandra, a role created on film by Eva Amurri. She will join previously announced stars Celia Keenan-Bolger, John Dossett, Julia Murney, Mary Faber, Josh Breckenridge, Juliana Ashley Hansen, Curtis Holbrook, Van Hughes, Jason Michael Snow, Aaron Tveit, Emily Walton and Daniel Zaitchick.

In Saved, good girl Mary Keenan-Bolger and her domineering best friend Hilary Faye Faber are starting their senior year at the top of the social food chain at American Eagle Christian High School—that is, until Mary's boyfriend Tveit tells her he thinks he's gay. When Jesus appears in a vision, and Mary heeds his message "to do everything she can to help him," her good deeds are met with dire consequences, and Mary is forced to question everything she's ever believed. Through it all, she finds faith in unexpected places and learns what it truly means to be saved.
