Tony Award winner Mandy Patinkin was signed on to play Prospero in Shakespeare's The Tempest at Classic Stage Company this fall. The production will begin previews on September 3 and open on September 18, directed by CSC artistic director Brian Kulick. The limited off-Broadway engagement will continue through October 12 only.
As Prospero, Patinkin will play the master of a magical isle where shipwrecks, fantastic creatures, chance encounters, mystery and romance abound inThe Tempest, Shakespeare's celebration of the imagination, and, a production press release teases, "it is anticipated that he will lend his stunning vocal abilities to the production as well."
As previously announced, in honor of CSC's 40th anniversary season, Patinkin will also return to Broadway for one night only on May 19 to perform the solo concert Mandy Patinkin on Broadway, with Paul Ford on piano.
