9th Annual Broadway.com Audience Award Nominations Announced

Broadway.com readers have revealed their nominations for 9th Annual Broadway.com Audience Awards, the only theatrical award that honors the best of the season as chosen by regular theatergoers. The nominations were determined after a week of online voting, in which readers were asked to choose from complete lists of eligible shows and performers.

Winners will be determined after a second round of voting, with all previous votes wiped clean. Winners will be announced on Friday, May 30 and honored at a private reception on Tuesday, June 3. For a list of past winners, click here.

Some highlights:

— Young Frankenstein topped the list of nominated shows with 10 nods in various categories including Favorite New Broadway Musical. Five of the show's stars were honored with nominations, including two for featured player Sutton Foster, who has already won five Audience Awards in the past.

— Other past Audience Award winners honored again this year with nominations include Harvey Fierstein who won three awards in 2003 for Hairspray, Raul Esparza who won two awards in 2002, for tick, tick…BOOM! and Cabaret, Nathan Lane a two-trophy winner for The Producers and Patti LuPone half of 2006's Favorite Onstage Pair for Sweeney Todd.

— In the Heights, which won the Favorite New Off-Broadway Musical trophy last year, received six nominations this year, including Favorite New Broadway Musical.

— Is He Dead? star and two-time past winner Norbert Leo Butz received two nominations, including Best Diva Performance, joining four female nominees. Two men have won the diva category since the award's inception: Harvey Fierstein for Hairspray and Gary Beach for The Producers.
