2008 Drama League Awards Announced; LuPone Wins Top Acting Accolade

The winners of the 2008 Drama League Awards were announced May 16 at the Marriot Marquis during a luncheon hosted by Harvey Fierstein, co-author and star of A Catered Affair. The oldest theatrical institution to give awards, The Drama League honors the collective works of Broadway and off-Broadway shows each season. The 74th annual Drama League Awards dais featured approximately 60 stars from the 2007-08 Broadway and off-Broadway season, including the honorary co-chairs.

Gypsy star and Broadway diva Patti LuPone took top honors for acting, receiving the coveted Distinguished Performance Award over 70 other nominees from the 2007-2008 season. The award can only be presented once in the lifetime of a stage performer. Host Fierstein was a winner as well, with his Catered Affair taking honors for Distinguished Production of a Musical.
