November, Starring Nathan Lane, to Close on 7/13

David Mamet's comedy November will play its final performance at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on July 13. Nathan Lane, who stars as President Charles Smith, had previously announced his departure on that date, but the production itself had not confirmed that it would close when Lane left. Directed by Joe Mantello, November will have played a total of 205 performances upon closing.

November began previews on December 20 and opened on Broadway on January 17. In addition to Lane, the play stars Laurie Metcalf as presidential aide Clarice Bernstein, Dylan Baker as presidential advisor Archer Brown, plus Ethan Phillips and Michael Nichols.

Set just days before a major presidential election, November involves civil marriages, gambling casinos, lesbians, American Indians, presidential libraries, questionable pardons and campaign contributions. The raucous comedy has struggled at the box office, playing to less than 46% of capacity for the week ending June 1. Metcalf received the production's only 2008 Tony Award nomination for her featured performance.
