Jeff Daniels and Rachel York will star in Turn of the Century, a new musical written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice and directed by Tommy Tune, which will be produced at Chicago's Goodman Theater this fall. The show will run from September 19-26 at the Goodman's Albert Theater.
Turn of the Century will feature unspecified songs from the great American songbook and a script by the Tony-nominated book writers of Jersey Boys. According to the Goodman website, the musical centers on Dixie Wilson York, a singer who can't catch a break—with a gig or a guy—and Billy Clark Daniels, in his musical theater debut, a piano player who knows all the songs and loves all the ladies. At the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve 1999, musicians Billy and Dixie receive a fantastical power and set out together to "discover" America's most popular songs.
Daniels most recently appeared on the New York stage in Manhattan Theatre Club's off-Broadway production of Blackbird. His Broadway credits include Redwood Curtain, The Golden Age, Fifth of July and Gemini. Although not known as a singer, Daniels writes on his personal website, "I've been writing songs for over thirty years. I don't write hits. I don't send out demos to famous singers. I just write songs. They're my diaries.... If you really wanted to get to know me, you'd find me in there."
York has appeared on Broadway in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Sly Fox, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Victor/Victoria, City of Angels and Les Miserables.
