Mary-Louise Parker to Headline Broadway Revival of Hedda Gabler

Tony Award winner Mary-Louise Parker will star in a Broadway revival of Henrik Ibsen's Hedda Gabler this winter, produced by Roundabout Theatre Company. Featuring a new adaptation by Christopher Shinn, the play will begin previews on January 6 and open on January 25 at the American Airlines Theatre, directed by Ian Rickson.

In Hedda Gabler, newlywed Hedda Tesman finds herself bored with married life to her scholar husband, George. As the daughter of General Gabler, she had grown accustomed to the freedom and exciting social world of her father's home. When her rival, Mrs. Elvsted, reenters her life with Hedda's former lover, Eilert Lovberg in tow, Hedda sets out on a shocking path of destruction that affects the lives of everyone around her.

Parker most recently starred in the off-Broadway production of Sarah Ruhl's Dead Man's Cell Phone. A Best Actress Tony Award winner for her performance in Proof, Parker received Tony nominations for her performances Reckless and Prelude to a Kiss, both by Craig Lucas. She appeared on Broadway in Bus Stop and off-Broadway in How I Learned to Drive, Communicating Doors, Four Dogs and a Bone, The Art of Success and Babylon Gardens. Parker won the Golden Globe and Emmy for her performance in Mike Nichols' HBO adaptation of Angels in America and is currently starring in the Showtime series Weeds, which brought her another Golden Globe and multiple Emmy nominations.

Hedda Gabler was most recently produced on Broadway in 2001 in a production starring Kate Burton. Cate Blanchett played the role in an Australian production that came to BAM in 2006.
