First Preview of Broadway-Bound 9 to 5 Delayed in Los Angeles

The first preview of the Dolly Parton-penned musical 9 to 5 has been delayed by three days. The curtain was originally scheduled to rise at Los Angeles' Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre on September 3. The show will now debut September 6, retaining its scheduled September 20 opening with performances continuing through October 19.

"The technical demands are enormous and we must afford the creative team and cast the time to develop the show to the level of quality that it, and our audiences, deserve," CTG Artistic Director Michael Ritchie said in a statement. " Added Parton, ""Oh, what's two to three more days on a project that we've worked two to three years on?" The sets and the technical end of things are more involved on this musical than they were on the movie!"

9 to 5 stars Allison Janney, Stephanie J. Block, Megan Hilty and Marc Kudisch in a musical adaptation of the hit film, which starred Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton and Dabney Coleman. The show, which features a 30-person cast and 20 new songs written by Parton, is set to begin previews at Broadway's Marquis Theatre on March 24, 2009.
