John Cullum and Tony Roberts Headed Off-Broadway in Heroes

Broadway veterans John Cullum and Tony Roberts have signed on to star in Keen Company’s forthcoming New York debut production of Gerald Sibleyras’ Heroes. The comedy, which has been translated by Tom Stoppard, will play at the Clurman Theatre on Theater Row from February 24 to April 11, 2009, directed by Keen’s artistic director, Carl Forsman.

Heroes is described as an evocative comedy about three World War I veterans living in a veterans’ home who plot a new assault—a trip to a stand of trees in the distance. But should they bring the stone dog with them? And does the stone dog move sometimes? The play won the Olivier Award as London’s Best New Comedy in 2006.

Cullum is currently playing Beverly Weston in the Broadway production of August: Osage County. A Tony winner for On the Twentieth Century and Shenandoah, he received Tony nominations for 110 in the Shade, Urinetown and On a Clear Day You Can See Forever. His recent New York stage appearances include Lincoln Center Theater’s production of Cymbeline and Keen’s production of The Conscientous Objector, in which he played President Lyndon Johnson.

Roberts most recently starred in the Broadway production of Xanadu. His many New York theatrical credits include the original production and Broadway revival of Barefoot in the Park, Cabaret, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, Endgame, A Christmas Carol and Tony-nominated performances in Play It Again, Sam and How Now, Dow Jones.
