Due to popular demand, Danny Hoch’s Taking Over has extended its limited run by one week at the Public Theater. The solo show, which opened November 23 with an original closing date of December 14, will now run through December 21.
In Taking Over, Hoch chronicles the current state of gentrification in New York City, giving voice to everyone from the developers evicting locals to make way for lofts to the bar-hopping career hipsters who buy them, and those left in the wake of both. Taking Over is described as a raw, explosive, hilarious and heartbreaking study of the impact of our obsession with economic expansion.
Hoch last performed at the Public in 1994 with his solo show Some People. His other shows include Pot Melting and Jails, Hospitals & Hip-Hop and have garnered two OBIES, an NEA Solo Theatre Fellowship, Sundance Writers Fellowship, CalArts/Alpert Award In Theatre and a Tennessee Williams Fellowship. Hoch's theater pieces have toured to 50 U.S. cities and 15 countries.
