The film adaptation of John Patrick Shanley’s Tony Award-winning play Doubt has earned two honors from the National Board of Review. Directed by Shanley and starring Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams, the movie was awarded Best Ensemble Cast as well as Best Breakthrough Performance by an Actress for Viola Davis, who’s featured in the role of Mrs. Muller.
The honors will be presented a the National Board of Review’s annual gala on January 14 at Cipriani 42nd Street, hosted this year by Whoopi Goldberg.
NBR members view approximately 300 films per year, consisting of theatrical, independent, major-studio, documentary and foreign-language releases. Their screening membership includes knowledgeable film buffs, academics, film professionals and students in the New York metropolitan area. At year's end, members receive a list of all films screened, along with final ballots, which are tabulated by a certified public accounting firm in order to determine annual honorees.
