Shrek the Musical leading lady Sutton Foster will release her first solo CD, Wish, on February 17, 2009, on the Ghostlight Records label. Described as a jazz-infused mix of Broadway, cabaret and pop favorites, Wish includes 15 songs selected by Foster and musical director Michael Rafter, who co-produced the recording with Joel Moss. Foster and Kurt Deutsch served as executive producers, and Foster’s original artwork adorns the CD package.
New York Times critic Ben Brantley singled out Foster in his review of Shrek the Musical, saying that as Princess Fiona, she “has emerged as an inspired, take-charge musical comedian in the tradition of Danny Kaye and Carol Burnett.” The Tony-winning star of Thoroughly Modern Millie, Little Women, The Drowsy Chaperone and Young Frankenstein will perform on February 19 as part of the American Songbook Series at Lincoln Center.
The track list for Wish includes “I’m Beginning to See the Light,” “Warm All Over,” “The Late, Late Show,” “Up on the Roof,” “My Romance/Danglin’,” “I Like The Sunrise,” “Air Conditioner,” “Sunshine on My Shoulders,” “My Heart Was Set on You,” “Flight” a duet with Megan McGinnis, “Once Upon A Time,” “Nobody's Cryin',” “Come the Wild, Wild Weather,” “On My Way” and “Oklahoma.”
