Daniel Radcliffe, currently starring in the acclaimed Broadway revival of Equus, has been voted the 2008 Broadway.com Star of the Year by readers of the site. Radcliffe beat out nominees Brian d'Arcy James Shrek, Patti LuPone Gypsy, Lin-Manuel Miranda In the Heights, Kelli O'Hara South Pacific and the stars of [title of show] for the honor.
“That’s really, really amazing!" Radcliffe told Broadway.com when he learned of the news. "The Broadway community has been incredibly welcoming and this sort of sums it up, really. In a year when there have been some really big performances on Broadway, to have been nominated and win is really, really cool!”
Radcliffe makes his Broadway debut playing troubled Alan Strang in Equus, a role he first performanced on the West End in London. He is best known for playing the title role of Harry Potter in five Hollywood blockbuster films and will return to the part for the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and the finale of the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which will be broken into two films.
