Big, bright beautiful new musical Shrek will hit the studio January 12, assembling at New York’s Legacy Studios to lay down tracks for the show’s upcoming original cast album, set for release by Decca Broadway in March. Show composer Jeanine Tesori will helm the recording, producing alongside sound designer Peter Hylenski.
Highlights of the forthcoming disc include Brian d’Arcy James’ “Big, Bright Beautiful World;” “I Know It’s Today,” showcasing Sutton Foster; Christopher Sieber leading the cast in “What’s Up, Duloc?;” “Don’t Let Me Go,” sung by Daniel Breaker; and “Freak Flag,” featuring John Tartaglia. The cast recording will also feature company members Haven Burton, Jennifer Cody, Ben Crawford, Bobby Daye, Ryan Duncan, Sarah Jane Everman, Aymee Garcia, Leah Greenhaus, Justin Greer, Lisa Ho, Chris Hoch, Danette Holden, Jacob Ming-Trent, Carolyn Ockert-Haythe, Marissa O'Donnell, Denny Paschall, Greg Reuter, Adam Riegler, Noah Rivera, Heather Jane Rolff, Jennifer Simard, Rachel Stern, Dennis Stowe and David F.M. Vaughn.
Shrek the Musical began previews at the Broadway Theater November 8 before its official December 14 opening. The production, based on the book by William Steig and the Dreamworks feature film, is directed by Tony Award nominee Jason Moore. Shrek features book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, costumes by Tim Hatley, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone, choreography by newcomer Josh Prince, and musical direction by Tim Weil.
