Patti LuPone’s first post-Gypsy acting gig will apparently be a guest appearance on the Emmy-winning comedy 30 Rock. Entertainment Weekly reports that the Tony Award-winning star will play the mother of Judah Friedlander’s character, disheveled slacker staff writer Frank Rossitano, on the New York-based NBC sitcom.
LuPone last appeared on TV as Mrs. Weiner, the mother of Michael Urie’s Marc on Ugly Betty, and spent four seasons playing understanding mom Libby Thacher in the 1990s series Life Goes On. "If I'm going to be a mother on TV, I'm mighty proud to be both Judah Friedlander and Michael Urie's mom," she told Broadway.com.
LuPone will be the latest theater vet to appear on 30 Rock, including Edie Falco, Rip Torn, Nathan Lane, Whoopi Goldberg and Emmy winner Elaine Stritch, as well as series regulars Alec Baldwin and Jane Krakowski.
