Ron Holgate to Replace Tony Roberts in Heroes

Tony Award winner Ron Holgate will replace Tony Roberts in the cast of Keen Company’s upcoming off-Broadway production of Gerald Sibleyras’ Heroes, joining previously announced stars John Cullum and Jonathan Hogan. Roberts has withdrawn “to attend to family matters,” according to a press announcement. Heroes will begin performances on February 24 and open on March 8 at the Clurman Theater on Theatre Row, continuing through April 11. Keen artistic director Carl Forsman will direct.

Winner of the 2006 Olivier Award for Best Comedy, Heroes is being performed in a translation by Tom Stoppard. The play is described as an evocative comedy about three World War I veterans living in a veterans’ home who plot a new assault: a trip to a stand of poplar trees in the distance. But should they bring the stone dog with them?

Holgate received the Tony Award for his performance as Richard Henry Lee in the original production of 1776 and played the same role in the film version. His Broadway credits include Milk and Honey, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Grand Hotel, Lend Me a Tenor and revivals of Guys & Dolls, Annie Get Your Gun and Kiss Me, Kate.
