Lincoln Center Theater has announced two Fall 2009 productions, new works by playwrights making their Broadway and New York debuts, respectively. Sarah Ruhl’s In the Next Room or The Vibrator Play will start previews October 22 at a Shubert theater to be announced, with an opening scheduled for November 19, directed by Les Waters. Nathan Louis Jackson’s Broke-ology will be presented at the Mitzi Newhouse Theatre beginning September 10, with an opening set for October 5, helmed by In the Heights director Thomas Kail. LCT’s Tony Award-winning revival of South Pacific will continue its hit run at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre.
Described as a comedy about marriage, intimacy and electricity, In the Next Room or The Vibrator Play had its world premiere last month at Berkeley Repertory Theatre. LCT gave Ruhl her New York debut with its production of The Clean House. Her other plays include Dead Man’s Cell Phone, Demeter in the City, Eurydice, Late: a cowboy song, Melancholy Play, Orlando and Passion Play: a cycle.

premiered last summer at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, directed by Kail and starring Francois Battiste, Gaius Charles, Wendell Pierce and April Yvette Thompson. The play tells the story of the King family, a tight-knit clan whose loyalty is tested when two brothers are called home to take care of their ailing father. Jackson, a student at the Juilliard School and a graduate of Kansas State University, has won two Lorraine Hansberry Playwriting Awards, the Mark Twain Playwrighting Award and the Kennedy Center’s Gold Medallion.

Broke-ology will features sets by Donyale Werle, costumes by Emily Rebholz, lighting by Jason Lyons and sound by Jill BC DuBoff. Casting for LCT's production will be announced at a later date.
