Broadway stars and real-life husband and wife Rebecca Luker and Danny Burstein will announce the nominees for the 2008-2009 season’s Outer Critic Circle Awards on April 20 at Algonquin Hotel. Winners in 23 categories will be announced on May 11, with the annual awards ceremony to follow on May 21 at Sardi’s Restaurant.
Celebrating its 59th season of bestowing awards of excellence in the field of theater, the Outer Critics Circle is an association of writers affiliated with more than ninety newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations, and theater publications in America and abroad.
Luker currently stars as Winifred Banks in Mary Poppins, for which she received a Tony Award nomination and an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination in 2007. Ms. Luker was last seen on Broadway opposite Antonio Banderas in Nine. Her other Broadway performances include starring roles in The Music Man, The Sound of Music, Show Boat, and The Secret Garden.
Burstein is currently starring as Luther Billis in South Pacific, for which he earned an Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk and Tony Award nomination. Last seen as Aldolpho in The Drowsy Chaperone Tony Award Nominee, Mr. Burstein’s other recent Broadway credits include: A Class Act, Titanic, and Company.
