Eric McCormack, HSM's Lucas Grabeel & More Set for L.A. Fantasticks

Will & Grace alum Eric McCormack will play El Gallo in the Reprise Theatre Company's 16-performance run of The Fantasticks. Directed by Reprise artistic director Jason Alexander, the production will also star High School Musical's Lucas Grabeel as the young lover Matt and Broadway vet Harry Groener as Luisa's father. The show will be presented at UCLA's Freud Playhouse in Los Angeles May 5-17.

The cast will also include Alison Woods as Luisa, Barry Dennen, Hap Lawrence, Kim Mikesell and Eileen T'Kaye. According to the Repise website, The Fantasticks will replace a previously announced production of Chess.

Featuring a book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, The Fantasticks tells the timeless and poetic tale of two young lovers, featuring beloved songs such as “Try to Remember” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain." An off-Broadway production of the show is currently running at the Snapple Theatre Center.

Modeled on the formula made successful by Encores! in New York, Reprise originally presented rarely seen musicals but has expanded in recent years to present "all musicals that deserve to be seen, either in their original form or with a new, fresh take."
