Atlantic Theater Company has announced complete casting for the world premiere of playwright Leslie Ayvazian’s Make Me. The new comedy, directed by Atlantic Associate Artistic Director Christian Parker, will be the company’s final production of the 2008-2009 season, beginning previews at Atlantic Stage 2 on May 19. The limited engagement will open May 31 and play through June 14.
Make Me will feature Anthony Arkin Broadway’s I’m Not Rappaport, Candy Buckley Broadway’s After the Fall, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jessica Hecht Julias Caesar on Broadway, J.R. Horn Atlantic’s Almost an Evening, Broadway’s The Crucible, Richard Masur Broadway’s Democracy, off-Broadway’s Dust and Emmy Award winner Ellen Parker Broadway’s Richard II, TV’s Guiding Light. Described as a “comic fugue,” the show follows six pent-up Americans in three different relationships that have reached the end of their ropes, exploring what happens when the rules are changed just at the moment when people think they are perfectly comfortable.
Ayvazian makes her Atlantic Company debut with Make Me. The scribe’s off-Broadway play Nine Armenians previously won the John Gassner Outer Critics Award, the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and the Kennedy Center’s Roger L. Stevens Award.
Parker most recently directed the New York premiere of Tina Howe’s Birth and After Birth at Atlantic. Additional credits include Atlantic’s Arrangements and The Hiding Place, as well as pieces for Broadway’s The 24 Hour Plays. Park currently runs the MFA Dramaturgy program at Columbia University.
Make Me’s design team includes scenic design by Anna Louizos, costumes by Theresa Squire, lighting by Josh Bradford and sound by Jill BC DuBoff.
