Lynn Nottage’s Ruined, which was recently awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, has been extended again at Manhattan Theatre Club. The show, which opened to strong reviews on February 10, will now play through May 17.
Directed by Kate Whoriskey, Ruined was originally presented in Chicago last fall. Set in a small mining town in Democratic Republic of Congo, it follows Mama Nadi, a shrewd businesswoman whose bar/brothel plies rebel and government soldiers with music, beer and good times, as the land outside is torn apart by civil war. Is she a war profiteer, exploiting the women she shelters? How far will she go to survive?
The cast features features Quincy Tyler Bernstine, Cherise Boothe, Chris Chalk, Saidah Arrika Ekulona, William Jackson Harper, Chiké Johnson, Russell G. Jones, Simon Shabantu Kashama, Kevin Mambo, Tom Mardirosian, Ron McBee and Condola Rashad.
