Broadway Marquees to be Dimmed in Memory of Bea Arthur

The marquees of Broadway theaters will be dimmed in the memory of Tony Award winner Bea Arthur, who died on April 25 at age 86. The lights will be dimmed on April 28 at exactly 8:00pm for one minute.

“We are so fortunate that Bea Arthur’s portrayals of memorable roles graced our Broadway stages," Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of the Broadway League, said in a statement. "With a career spanning so many forms of entertainment, there is no doubt she will be missed by all.”

A Tony winner for playing Vera Charles in the 1966 Broadway musical hit Mame, Arthur was best known for her Emmy Award-winning starring roles in TV's Maude and The Golden Girls. She returned to Broadway in 2002 in the solo show Bea Arthur on Broadway: Just Between Friends, which was nominated for a Tony for Best Special Theatrical Experience.
