A starry lineup is on tap for the American Theatre Wing’s annual spring gala, to be held on June 1 at Cipriani 42nd Street. Tony Award-winning stars Kristin Chenoweth, Barbara Cook and Audra McDonald will perform at the benefit event, and Tony winner Hugh Jackman will serve as the evening’s honorary chair.
Proceeds from the gala, to be held six days before this year’s Tony ceremony, benefit the education and outreach programs of the American Theatre Wing. The entertainment portion of the dinner will be directed by Lauren Class Schneider.
Chenoweth won a Tony for You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown and received a Tony nomination for creating the role of Glinda in Wicked. After ending her run as a star of the TV series Pushing Daisies, she most recently appeared onstage in the Encores! production of Music in the Air. Her memoir A Little Bit Wicked: Life, Love and Faith In Stages has just been published.
Cook began her career on Broadway almost 60 years ago in Flahooley and won a Tony for creating the role of Marian in The Music Man. She is a celebrated concert artist and is currently performing a new cabaret show “Here’s to Life” at Feinstein’s at the Regency.
McDonald, who is currently starring in the TV series Private Practice, is a Tony winner for A Raisin in the Sun, Ragtime, Master Class and Carousel and was nominated for Tonys for 110 in the Shade and Marie Christine.
