Casting has been announced for Second Stage’s world premiere of Zakiyyah Alexander’s 10 Things to Do Before I Die. The new play, directed by Jackson Gay, will kick off Second Stage’s summer Uptown Series beginning May 12, opening May 28 at the group’s uptown home, the McGinn/Cazale Theatre.
10 Things to Do Before I Die will feature Francois Battiste Off-Broadway’s The Good Negro, Quiver and Twitch at the NYSF, Natalie Venetia Belcon Broadway’s Avenue Q, Rent, Kyle Beltran Kingdom at The Old Globe, Aida at West Virginia Public Theatre, Dion Graham A Raisin in the Sun, Lobby Hero and Tracie Thoms Broadway's Rent, Drowning Crow.
The play centers on Vida Belcon, a NYC high school teacher, and Nia Thoms, a once-successful writer, two sisters who couldn't be more different. When a delivery of boxes from their recently deceased father arrives they must reconnect and re-examine their complicated history.
Second Stage Theatre Uptown Series will follow 10 Things…with the world premiere presentation of Lila Rose Kaplan’s Wildflower, directed by Giovanna Sardelli, for a limited engagement beinning July 13 and opening July 27. The play will run through August 8.
